Talking Portraits

What does a portrait say?

A camera is a powerful instrument.  Unlike any other machine it can stop time.  It freezes microseconds of an moment undetectable by the eye and immortalizes our memories.  My photographs are a visual memory of the time I’ve spent with other and experiences of the time we’ve shared.  Some are of family and friends which naturally I have a connection to, but it’s the ability to create a bond and connection with someone I do not have a history with that drives me.   Take time to really look at your last photos.  Whether they’re on a screen or in an old photo album look into them and see what emotions they evoke in you.

It’s a reminder of where we are in the moment  both physically and emotionally.

Engagement

It documents a time  in our live.

Sundays in Bed, Family Portrait

It convey personality and expresses an emotion.

Wagging Tails at the Park

It can reach the soul and evokes feelins.

Stretching Out the Weekend

The best way to start the day is with a big cup of coffee and nice long stretch.  I drink the coffee and mamma heads down the street for the stretch…

Just two blocks away is the new Romney Pilates Center on Magazine Street where mamma goes for her yoga and pilates. Mamma just can’t get enough of her ‘Yin Release’ class on Friday mornings.  She comes out of the class worked and relaxed; I don’t know how they do it.  It’s a meditative and soothing class that works and stretches the body prepping her for a rejuvenated day.  This is just what she needs.  Spending so much time hunched in front of a computer I worry about her posture and staying strong but, I know that this is the place that will keep her strong and running me for days to come. If she had the time I know she’d be there more often but her passion for photography keeps getting in the way.  Even without her equipment she can’t help but click the camera after class.  Check out this impressive shot she took with her iPhone 4.

Light as a Feather

I’m not sure if it’s the strength of the instructor or the lighting that her iPhone captured that impresses me more.  Can you imagine what the new iPhone 4s is capable of?! She hasn’t even received the phone yet and she won’t shut up about the better optics, duel chips, larger aperture, and SERI!! She’s going wild over what she’ll be able to capture with the new device but I’m not sure how it could get better than this.  She says the new optics will allow her to capture even more lustrous photos. I Guess we’ll have to wait and see and I’ll let you know, don’t worry. Wonder if she’ll have Seri make my dinners?

At 50 years old I’m pretty impressed with my mamma’s ability to adapt to all this new fancy technology. I can see she’s truly feeling connected.  Turns out you can teach an old dog new tricks.

Alex and…Alex

Hello Old Freinds….I would like to introduce y’all to my new friends  Alex and, well….Alex.  Here at the Elizabeth Dondis Photography Enterprise we are growing  fast, welcoming two new faces with the exact same names,  same age, same height, and same brilliance. It seems a bit overwhelming, but I’m not overwhelmed…it just means  more hands for scratching, more fingers for clicking cameras, and more brains for turning these wheels of my mamma’s company.

Say hello…..

Thanks iphone !  To the right, Alex and to the left Alex. Confused?

Summer Sloppy Doggie Days Are Gone!

Please, Welcome me back.

After a long overdue absence I’m please to announce that I, Tucker Dondis, am back.  I have not forgotten about my loyal fans and, if anyone knows the importance of loyalty it’s this pooch here. My lazy summer dog days have lasted too long and the things I have to share will be exciting.  In addition, the bustle of photography season is just getting started so pictures of weddings, dancing, holidays and more have me wagging my tail.   In the next coming months I will share with you my Mamma’s and my photos of the adventures, excursions and the things I’ve seen, eaten, sniffed and chewed. I hope you’re eager for my tales and the exciting photos I have to share.

I can’t wait to share with you all my new Tucker thoughts

light is best understood with your eyes

wedding gown alla film noir

laura's gown

laura prepares the morning of her wedding

through a glass, brightly

for me, these two images describe–better that i am able to in words–the magic of light.

while it is a pretty awesome concept, no matter what scientists and physicists say about light being both a wave and a particle, in a universe where you have to be one or the other, has ever helped me understand light…

i think that light is best understood with your eyes, as least for me. in photography, light makes the magic happen–not the camera you’re using and how many megapixels it has or how much it costs–whether it is the simple act of capturing an image on film or the very rare act of capturing an image of indescribable meaning and power, light deserves the credit…not to say the people or things in the image aren’t important, because they are vital…but if the light isn’t there, there is no magic.

light and darkness are forever inseparable, because they both need the other in order to be what they are. they define each other.
and though they try to break that bond, there will always be some measure of light in darkness, because the world is really just so many shades of gray.

it must be this way. because, for starters, that’s the way it is, and i don’t see anyone of us capable of changing it; and because, secondly, light is how we first learn to understand the world we’ve been born into. light, in any measure, makes our world understandable. like the newly hatched duckling understands first by seeing, something along the lines of, “you, you are the one. you are my mother.” so, too, do we understand the world with our eyes before any of the other senses–all because of light.

letting that light work its magic and simply appreciating that understanding of it, is just as important as knowing its scientific properties. it works for me.

and it makes my work so much fun! oh mr. sun, sun, mr. golden sun, please shine down on me…
